“This Is Virginia” Performance

The One-Hundred Yard Universe team proudly produced a musical celebration at the Providence Park Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, featuring the Norfolk State University Concert Choir and the VCU Commonwealth Singers. Special guest Christopher Turner performed his original piece, “This Is Virginia,” with the choirs, in addition to a program of gospel songs.

Written and originally performed at Providence Park Baptist Church in 1994, "This is Virginia" is a loving tribute to the state where Christopher Turner was born and raised. This collaboration marks the first public performance of the song, composed as a potential replacement for "Carry Me Back To Old Virginia," in nearly 30 years.

The performance is a centerpiece for our film One-Hundred Yard Universe, sharing in the Turner family’s continual growth as they examine their family’s past.
